About Me

Shania Schooler was raised in Jamestown, North Dakota. Throughout her life, she had an increasing interest in the visual arts. Growing up, Shania consumed art supplies quickly, constantly asking her mother for more and more supplies when they went to the store even if she had more at home. Creating artworks for her family, friends, and classmates, she was encouraged to grow her skills. She continued to make artwork throughout her academic career and when Schooler reached high school, she became more interested in the idea of creating art as a future career. Now, she is preparing for a career as an art educator after graduating from Valley City State University.

At VCSU, Schooler showcased her artwork in various exhibitions including a Juried Student Exhibition, titled Things, Things, and Things, where she was honored with best three-dimensional artwork. She has shown her artwork in Untouched Hues at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND, Things, Things, and Things and Kaleidoscopic Mixtape at McCarthy Gallery at VCSU, Choose Your Fate and What’s Cookin’? at Alley Beans in Valley City, ND, along with various summer gallery exhibits at the Stutsman County Fair in Jamestown, North Dakota. Academic honors received include the Hazel McBride Scholarship, Harriett Lusyd Memorial Art and Music Scholarship, and the Cathy Jahn Memorial Scholarship.

Schooler draws inspiration from other artists, literature, and pop culture. Always being intrigued by the fantasy, horror, and science fiction worlds, most of the artworks she creates has an undertone of the macabre and fable. Schooler explores a variety of mediums within her work, but mostly likes to work with graphite pencils and acrylic painting materials.

In her career as an artist and educator, Schooler hopes to share the world of artmaking with her students. With showing how passionate she is about learning and art to her students, she hopes to share her enthusiasm with her students as they grow in their own problem solving, critical thinking, and creative collaboration skills.
