Artist Statement

There has always been something fascinating to me about the anatomy of either a human or animal. The surface of the body is all that is seen on a day to day basis so the chance to study the internal workings of the body and how they looked was something to be considered.

Before choosing to pursue a career in art education, I had thought about a career in the tattoo industry. Body modifications can be found throughout history, and with an eternal interest in body art such as tattoos, I chose to create work showcasing the beauty of these designs and how they can easily be transferred from paper to skin.

Each artwork alludes to the body art style and how florals are commonly seen in the industry. Ink Garden continues to explore the ideas the industry is continuously creating.

I chose to work with graphite, color pencils, printmaking techniques and digital art. The variety of mediums are both what I am comfortable with and what I decided to experiment with. Using both comfort materials and those of experimentation allowed me to take greater risks in my artwork. Learning digital art brought the adaptation of new skills to both traditional and nontraditional forms. These traditional and nontraditional forms of artmaking allow me to convey ideas of how body modification and fine art join.
